The Drawing Room
This is a very elegant and inviting room with two large windows facing over the rose garden, the croquet lawn and parkland. The Drawing Room is always at the disposal of our guests, and complimentary tea or coffee is available at any time.
This is where our visitors meet each other, make new friends, have tea and home made cake on arrival and it is where we gather before dinner to enjoy a welcoming glass of wine, a tumbler of Pimms, a gin and tonic, a whisky, or some Champagne. Our drinks cupboard contains a good choice of before and after dinner drinks.
Chat to your hosts and your fellow guests, and let your mind wander as you watch the fire flickering in the handsome Adam fireplace which throws a rosy glow before and after dinner on chilly nights. Browse through a selection of magazines and books, or indulge in a game of Majong, Cribbage, Bridge, Backgammon or Draughts, or just sit back and relax.
The Dining Room
This used to be the old kitchen before the house was modernised in 2004. However, its size and outlook make it an ideal place to eat, with the extendable Regency dining table. At Uplands House our guests all eat together round one table, and we usually have dinner with our guests, but if you prefer to eat on your own we can arrange that.
The Orangery
With double glazed French windows on two sides, this room overlooks the fountain, the lily pond, and the rose garden. The outlook in Summer is delightful; with the double doors open the perfume of the roses comes wafting in, and the garden can be floodlit when it gets dark.
On fine evenings we can have a drink by the bubbling brook before dinner and listen to the early evening call of the plovers. Later we can often hear the owls hooting and occasionally glimpse a shooting star.
It is useful to have a second dining area, because sometimes we have a small family party who prefer to eat alone, and if there is anyone else, they can eat with us in the Orangery. Feel free to invite your local friends to join you for dinner.
