Our bedrooms exude peace and tranquillity, they enjoy lovely countryside views and have en-suite bathrooms in which we provide large fluffy towels and dressing gowns, soap, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion and bubble bath. In each room guests will find tea/coffee trays and biscuits, still and carbonated water, a flat screen TV, a clock radio with docking station, a blow heater, a torch, a hot water bottle, a charging plug for laptops, a notepad, and electric blankets. We use deeply comforting goose feather duvets and pillows, though we can provide sheets and blankets and alternative pillows if required, and our exquisite linen is crisply laundered and a joy to sleep in. Bedrooms in use are serviced daily.
‘a luxurious and romantic room perfect for a special occasion’
The magnificent Four Poster bedroom enjoys sunshine all day, with double aspects over both the rose garden and the fields with their majestic trees.
The handsome Georgian inlaid mahogany four poster bed is very comfortable with a modern super-kingsize mattress. There is a day bed for extra relaxation, a table and upright chairs for reading and catching up with the emails, lovely antique furniture including a dressing table and mirror, a chest of drawers and a wardrobe. Gorgeous old Chinese lamps, French Turnell et Gigon chintzes, woollen carpets and Russian paintings complete the picture. The adjoining bathroom is equally splendid, with bath, basin, WC, a large separate double shower, and a view over the garden and parkland.
The Chinese Room – £150 per night
‘Large south facing bedroom which can be double or twin’
The Chinese Room is delightful too, with twin Chippendale beds that can be zipped together to form a super-kingsize bed. Visitors tell us the mattresses give the best night imaginable. The room looks out over the croquet lawn and pasture beyond. It has fine antique furniture including a lovely black lacquer Chinoiserie dressing table suite brought from the Orient by family travellers in the 1930s.
There is also a wardrobe, a chest of drawers, an elegant carved gilt sofa, and bedside tables with unusual French lamps. These, providing easy bedtime reading, are made using bronze figures of swordsmen by Ferdinand Barbedienne. Pretty Warner fabrics, old Chinese rice paper paintings and rugs add to an ambience of luxury. There is a hand basin in the room and over it a beautiful gilded Chinese Chippendale mirror. The adjoining bathroom has a basin, a good long bath with a shower attachment on the taps, and a shower unit over the bath, WC, and excellent lighting.
‘charming, cosy and very comfortable’
The pretty Tulip room is the smallest of our three rooms, and is bathed in the early morning sunlight. It looks out over the farmland, orangery and rose garden. It has a king sized bed with padded headboard, Nina Campbell chintzes, a Louis VI writing desk with an upright chair, a fine antique pair of bedside cabinets with good high table lamps above for reading in bed, a large built in wardrobe, an arm chair, and exquisite 18th century watercolours.
The adjoining bathroom contains a bath with a shower attachment on the taps, which may be used as a standing shower by attaching it to a bar on the wall, and a WC and a basin with good lighting for shaving and makeup.
