Susan Edwards BA will be providing a fascinating illustrated lecture giving a rare glimpse into some of the secrets of how a portrait is painted. As well as having 40 years’ experience as a commissioned painter, Susan also lectures in Art Appreciation on Continental Gallery Tours, and this lecture is designed to enrich and inform guests’ future gallery visits.
She will also give a demonstration with a sitter, showing the variety of techniques and methods she uses, and house guests this weekend will have the opportunity to ask about or commission portraits at significantly reduced fees.
The inclusive programme begins on Friday evening with Welcome Drinks and Introductory Lecture: ‘The Secrets of Portraiture’, followed by a four course dinner with a glass of wine.
On Saturday morning, coffee and biscuits will be served during the Portraiture Demonstration. One of our guests will have the opportunity to sit for the demonstration, and, as a reward for being a guinea pig, acquire a portrait worth £1995 for £350! A free afternoon follows, during which afternoon tea will be served.
Inclusive also is A Pre-dinner drink, dinner and a glass of wine, followed by Breakfast on Sunday morning. Extras may be provided but may be charged.

Join us for a watercolour weekend at Uplands House. Susan’s expert ,relaxed and informal tuition, covering the basic techniques of watercolour painting, will ensure you achieve the sort of paintings you have always dreamed of being able to paint, in easy steps.
Susan is a qualified teacher and has a wealth of teaching experience at all levels, so whatever your abilities you can be sure of one to one relevant tuition in this small group.
The weekend will include 3 practical half day workshops, and an evening art appreciation lecture.
About the Artist:
Susan works in the traditional medium of Artist’s quality oil paints on Double Primed linen canvas. This ensures that under normal circumstances her portraits, (unlike 4 by 4 vehicles), will last for centuries and become part of a family’s inheritance. Within the last year Susan has exhibited, as a Provisional Member, with the Royal Institute of Oil Painters at the Mall Galleries, London, and has recently been Artist in Residence on a World Cruise. She has taught and lectured in Universities, and public schools, and she has had an impressive list of clients.
